Abstract The Suez Canal is a strategic narrow route (chokepoint), and geostrategic link between the Mediterranean Red Sea, en to Indian Ocean more broadly. chapter examines general geopolitical characteristics of Canal; challenges, opportunities, threats that Egypt, country owns, controls, operates canal, likely face over coming decades; how it might also influence entire Eastern Mediterranean, global supply chains. stability Egyptian regime most important factor for any economic benefit provided by Canal, as well efforts secure make accessible two-way traffic. Egypt’s shipping should not be limited alone. Gulf Aden Sea are afflicted with many security threats, notably piracy, which decrease attractiveness through Canal.
